Greenville, IL:
Claire Dannaman, a freshman at Illinois State University, Greenville resident, and recent graduate of Bond County Unit #2 High School, has been awarded the annual Elizabeth Boehm Memorial Scholarship. The $250 gift is provided to help support and encourage a student pursuing studies in the field of education. Claire intends to seek a degree in Special Education.
Elizabeth (Betty) Boehm was a resident of Greenville, Illinois that passed in July of 2020. Betty began her teaching career on an emergency war certificate in a one-room schoolhouse in Ava, IL when she was 18 years of age. Mrs. Boehm continued in public education for more than 40 years, serving as a principal for over 17 years in the Collinsville school district, during a time in which a limited amount of women served in administrative roles. Following her retirement, Betty moved to Greenville and was an avid quilter, with hundreds of entries submitted in the Bond County Fair. To honor Mrs. Boehm’s lifetime of service in public education, the memorial scholarship is awarded to one student from the cities and towns where Betty worked and lived: Bond County Community Unit #2 (Greenville), Trico Community Unit School District (Campbell Hill), and Collinsville Unit #2.
