Congratulations to the Scholastic Art Award Winners! Ainsley Olson and Leigha Wick both received Honorable Mentions. Mekylla Bico received a Silver Key. Lauren Hentschel received two silver keys. Kaya Harnetiaux received two Honorable Mentions, one Silver Key, and one Gold Key. All Silver and Gold Key winners will have their work exhibited at the Springfield Art Association from January 27 to February 22. All Gold Key winners' works go on to the national competition in New York! Congratulations to the award winners and to Mrs. Wagner on a FANTASTIC showing!
How does Art class work at the Jr. High? All 6th graders take Art class with Mrs. Wagner. They do lots of fun projects throughout the year. For 7th and 8th graders, Art is an elective that students may choose to take if they would like.

6th Grade Art curriculum focuses on the elements and principles of art and using them to convey meaning. Projects throughout the year include abstract self-portraits using recycled objects, acrylic paint, found object stamps, markers, and colored pencils.
7th Grade Art curriculum focuses on broadening the students' understanding of art. Projects throughout the year include wood burning, recycled glass bowls using broken bottles and fusing the in the kiln to create new plates and bowls, 3D sculptures, form and function in art by creating fictional ceramic clocks.
8th Grade Art curriculum focuses on expressing yourself through art. Projects throughout the year include self-portraits using whichever medium the student would like, mono-prints, silk screens, lino blocks, casting metal, and ceramics.
Art students were busy during the 2017-18 school year. Special thanks to the students and to Mrs. Wagner for helping to make our building look wonderful! A slideshow of some of their projects is to the right!
Sophie Borwick and Emily Thomason had the opportunity to attend Scholastic Art Honors Day with Mrs. Wagner during the 2018 spring semester. GJHS was allowed to take two students. Previously, Sophie Borwick, Emily Thomason, and Dora Cripe-Deist were all awarded Silver Keys for their entries into the Scholastic Art competition. Two names were drawn to attend the honors day. Steven Jack and Emma Siefken also received Honorable Mention awards for their entries. Congratulations to all award winners! A slideshow with pictures from the day is below!
