Course Description: This course is a dual credit course with Kaskaskia College. This course is designed for students who have completed algebra II. the first semester is designed to prepare students to take college calculus by focusing on pre-calculus topics which include analytic geometry and the study of polynomial, rational, radical, logarithmic, and exponential functions. in addition, a unit on operations with matrices, partial fraction decomposition, systems of linear inequalities and linear programming will be included. a unit approach will be utilized to study the following topics during the second semester: right and oblique triangles and their applications to the real world; graphing and solving problems involving sinusoids; a study of conic sections including parabolas, ellipses and hyperbolas and translations and rotations of axes; recursively defined functions; arithmetic and geometric sequences and series; combinatory problems involving permutations, combinations, k-samples, and k-sections; elementary probability theory with emphasis on experimental probability to develop theoretical probability.
